The Department of Animal Sciences offers flexible graduate programs leading to both the Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. Each program is tailored to the individual student through close collaboration with faculty advisors and committees, allowing students to pursue specialized interests across a wide range of disciplines. Students benefit from access to extensive research and teaching facilities—including dairy, beef, swine, and aquaculture units, as well as advanced laboratories—supporting a comprehensive, bench-to-application approach to animal science.
Graduate students engage in both fundamental and applied research aimed at improving animal and human health, productivity, and sustainability. Areas of study include genomics, reproductive biology, nutrition, environmental impact, and animal behavior and well-being. Through this training, students develop cutting-edge technical and analytical skills that prepare them for diverse careers in academia, industry, government agencies, and research institutions, as well as for advanced study and leadership roles in animal and life sciences.
