Animal Sciences Department welcomes Dr. John Unruh

We are pleased to welcome new faculty member Dr. John Unruh. John brings a wealth of experience in animal, meat, and food science. He earned his Ph.D. in animal sciences and industry at Kansas State University in 1984 and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in animal sciences at WSU in 1979 and 1981. In 1988, Dr. Unruh returned to KSU as an assistant professor in Animal Sciences and Industry, where he was promoted to full professor in 2007. While at KSU he taught 15 courses to more than 4,700 students, advised over 50 undergraduate students per year, and coached the KSU Collegiate Meat Judging Team from 1989-1996, which won two national championships and four reserve national championships. In addition, Unruh was the director of the International Meat and Livestock Program at KSU and managed 10 faculty-led study abroad programs. Following a brief stint in California he returned to Pullman. He is teaching Beef Feedlot Systems (Anim Sci 274) this Fall at WSU, as well as leading our Cougar Cattle Feeders. In Spring 2023, Dr. Unruh will teach our Anim Sci 474 class. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Unruh to the department.
