WSU Animal Sciences faculty member Dr. Michael Phelps recently presented groundbreaking research titled “Integrating Gene Editing and Transposon-Mediated Transgenesis for a Deeper Understanding of Trout Functional Genomics” at the Plant and Animal Genome (PAG) conference in San Diego on January 10, 2026.

The PAG conference is one of the premier international venues for plant, animal, and aquaculture genetics, drawing many of the top research laboratories from around the world.

During the meeting, Dr. Phelps shared exciting advances from his lab on rainbow trout genetics and biotechnology, showcasing innovative approaches that deepen our understanding of trout functional genomics.

As a global leader in the field, his presentation generated significant interest—sparking new collaborations with research groups in North Carolina, Maryland, California, and Chile.
